It’s the most wonderful time of the year! At Ooh La La Spa, Anti-Aging & Wellness, our team is so excited for all the parties, gatherings and festivities with friends and family – and we know you are too! However, with all the holly and jolly, some of our habits get thrown out the window, like eating more sugar, drinking more alcohol, late nights and increased stress levels. Dr. Jacobs has a few tips for people to embrace the season while still being mindful of the health of their skin.
Hydrate!
People sometimes forget that water intake is important, even when Santa Claus is coming to town. We talk about hydration year-round, but it’s especially important when we are outside our routines. Those cocktails with clever names and beautiful garnishes are a nice holiday treat, but we suggest alternating your cocktails with a water. Have the fun drink, then switch out and go straight for a water. It can go a long way, helping flush out any toxins and decreasing inflammation, which can appear directly on the skin.
Along with water, another great thing you can do for your skin to stay hydrated is applying the right products! We recommend investing in a good moisturizer like SkinMedica HA-5 Hyaluronic Acid serum to improve hydration, texture and smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This product is awesome because it delivers both immediate and long-term benefits, plumping the skin, so you’ll be glowing for Christmas’ to come!
Enjoy the Christmas cookie, but get your greens.
We are all about a cookie exchange at Ooh La La Spa, Anti-Aging & Wellness, but we want to encourage people to enjoy the sweet treat and then know when enough is enough for you. Being aware of how much sugar you are consuming can make a big difference in not just how you feel, but how you look. I suggest balancing the sweet treats with some fruits and vegetables. Getting your daily value of nutrients can only help your skin. Your face will thank you later!
Stick with your routine.
Hosting, a busy schedule, Christmas gift shopping and seeing family can be wonderful, but it can also come with an increase in stress levels. Stress can affect our skin in a variety of ways, such as breakouts, clogged pores, irritation, and dull skin. Sticking with your sleep routine and your skincare routine will go a long way this time of year. Plan to leave the party at a decent hour and set your makeup remover and cleanser out on your bathroom counter before you leave. This subtle reminder of leaving products out will remind you to take care of your face!
