5 Ways To Keep Your Skin Merry & Bright

Eat, drink and be merry! If only it were that simple, right? The truth is that the magic ushered in during the holidays can wreak havoc on our self-care routine, leaving us tired and dehydrated. We’ve got 5 tips to keep you looking and feeling your best, so you don’t fall victim to the post-holiday blues.

DRINK WATER

Staying hydrated is so important during the holidays, especially if you partake in cocktails and salty snacks. Not only does it increase your overall health, but it’s fantastic for your skin. Here’s some motivation to remind you why drinking water is one of the most important things you can do.

BUT FIRST, SKINCARE

Everyday life is filled with routines and habits. Your favorite podcast on your commute, coffee before leaving for work, getting to the gym a few times a week, and how you relax at night all contribute to your overall happiness and routine. Our daily, weekly, and monthly routines keep us sane.

Especially during the holidays, it’s so easy to forget to follow your skincare routine. It’s important to consider your skincare routine as being just as important as your morning coffee.

And we get it. Skincare products can be expensive. Using medical grade skincare products like SkinMedica® and Colorescience® may feel like a big expense you have to factor into your budget but consider it an investment that your future self will thank you for.

SkinMedica’s HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator supports the skin’s natural ability to retain moisture resulting in radiant, rejuvenated tone and texture. The photo to the left shows improvement after 8 weeks of use.

Something that we preach first and foremost when it comes to skincare is SUN PROTECTION, even in the winter months. Wearing the right sunscreen is the #1 thing you can do for your skin. We love Sunforgettable® Total Protection Face Shield from Colorescience! It’s hydrating, physical sunscreen that contains no harmful chemicals whatsoever.

If you suffer from skin redness, we recommend All Calm Multi-Correction Serum from Colorescience. This lightweight serum improves hydration and moisture retention to support skin barrier health while helping renew and soften skin’s texture. The photo to the right is after 12 weeks of use.

JUST SAY NO TO SUGAR

The influx of cookies, cakes, candy and other sugary treats can really wreak havoc on your skin during the holidays. We know it’s easier said than done, but it’s best to just say no or at least really limit how much you eat.

Your skin is made up of collagen and elastin, which contribute to your skin remaining firm and right. Sugar interferes with collagen and elastin production in your skin, resulting in both acne, aging and sagging. (oh my!) There is also an association between dairy products and acne breakouts, so be sure to limit your intake.

This holiday season, manage your sweet tooth by finding skin-friendly substitutes to the pies and brownies, such as berries and fruit.

BEAUTY SLEEP ISN’T JUST FOR PRINCESSES

It’s true what they say about beauty sleep. The blood flow to the skin increases during sleep and collagen is rebuilt, reducing wrinkles and age spots. If you sleep seven to nine hours a night, your skin is more moisturized, and it is better able to protect and heal itself when exposed to ultraviolet light than if you sleep five or fewer hours.

Sleep is when your skin heals from the damage caused by your daily activities. When you drift off, your skin gets the chance to improve. The early bird may get the worm, but the girl who gets enough sleep gets glowing skin!

To ramp up your overnight skin rejuvenation even more, we recommend SkinMedica’s LUMIVIVE® System. The LUMIVIVE® Night complex is clinically proven to recharge the skin’s essential repair process at night while the day serum provides a bio-barrier against blue light and other environmental aggressors from damaging skin.
